Are You My Mother?

Are You My Mother?

My newest illustration is inspired by a story I read as a child Are You My Mother by P.D. Eastman.

My adaptation takes the basic idea of the story and pushes it in a morbid direction. The snake is dressed up in costume in order to trick the baby bird into believing it is her mother... dinner anyone?

New Technique

Scarlet Ibis - Study

This is a new digital technique using scanned leaves and my watercolor textures. I want to try to create more pieces like my Teatrio series that I created in 2008.

Mother Earth's Gifts

I am trying so hard to get a job to pay off loans in this material world that I have forgotten the beauty and simplicity of nature. Her gifts are free and are meant to bring us joy. My heart belongs in a jungle somewhere, in a far off land, with my feet planted deep in the soil and the smell of rain lingering in the leaves.

The Quail's Secret

The Quail's Secret

This is a part of a series of pieces that I am working on for the holidays. I hope to turn them into Christmas Cards. The quail in this painting embodies fall and what is to come (the hidden ornaments of Christmas).

This piece was inspired by Homer's iliad, The Odyssey. The illustration depicts Odysseus's wife Penelope waiting for her husband to return from the Trojan War. For those of you that have forgotten, it takes Odysseus 10 years to make his way back home.

Helen Borrello's Arthurian Literature class inspired me to interpret Guinevere. Her internal battle of love vs. honor tore Arthur's kingdom apart. I am reluctant to make Guinevere a villain; I chose instead to represent her tortured heart.

Little Louie Fancy Pants

This is a recent painting of my dog Louie. It is a traditional watercolor painting with digital pattern to create surface texture. I am currently designing Yoko (my other dog), who will be the Queen. Stay tuned...
